Welcome to our 2011-2012 season.

Preparations for our first concert of the season have begun! As always, Dr. Donald Portnoy will be leading the talented musicians of the USC Symphony to perform the finest orchestral literature with acclaimed guest artists.

This Valentine’s Day program will feature three vocal soloists singing romantic highlights from movies, theatre, and the operatic world.

- Winners of the USC Concerto-Aria Competition


Each academic year, the USC Symphony Orchestra sponsors a concerto-aria competition. Any sophomore, junior, senior, master’s, or graduate certificate student enrolled at the University of South Carolina and studying applied music on the Columbia campus may compete. Winners perform with the USC Symphony Orchestra, and the names of winners are engraved on the concerto-aria plaque, which is on permanent display in the USC School of Music. Categories are strings, woodwinds, and brass.
